また、娘のMiddle Schoolから娘はELDを抜けてもいいけどどうするかというメールが来ました。Middle Schoolはあと2か月弱で終わりのタイミングでELDを抜けるお知らせが来るのは面白いなあお思いました。High Schoolの先生と面談で、ELDを受けることが決まっているので、この2か月弱免除されてもあまり意味はないよねえという話になって、例によって継続してELDを受ける選択をする返信をしました。
それにしても娘はやはり英語が上達しているということなんです。うーん、親はおいてかれているなあ。子供の上達は早いと言いますが、まさにその通りです。来た時の当初も心配しなくていいと周りに言われていましたが、ELDをクリアできるレベルになったと聞くとまさにそうなんだと思いますが、当の娘にとっては、やっぱりそのレベルまで行くのに大変だったみたいで、子供は早いとかそういうことを大人に言われたくないようです。
いずれにしても、うれしいニュースでした。

Dear Parents or Guardians of Ayaka Abe:

State and federal laws require all school districts in California to give a state test of English proficiency to students whose primary language is not English. A student’s primary language is identified on a home language survey, which is completed by parents or guardians upon registering their child in a California public school for the first time. In California, the name of the state test is the California English Language Development Test (CELDT). The results of the CELDT help to measure how each student is progressing toward proficiency in English in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Your child has been given the CELDT for the current school year, and your child has made one level’s growth or more towards proficiency in English according to the preliminary scores on CELDT. As a result of your child’s growth in English, based on their CELDT score and their academic progress in Language Arts and Social Studies, we are recommending the following new schedule for your child:

No zero period
1st period: Science, Mrs. Adams
All other classes to remain the same


Option 1 would be for your child to start in this new schedule on Monday, April 25, 2016.
Option 2 would be for your child to remain in his or her current schedule.
